Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-08-14

Elvarquen publishes text and accepts messages. Everything that exists about a reader is listed below, in full, rather than as a set of categories that might apply. The site operates under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Who is responsible

Elvarquen (elvarquen.com) is published by Benjamin Davies in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Requests under this policy go to [email protected], where a person reads them.

What is held

  • Technical request records. The hosting provider and the delivery network record the IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page and the browser user agent for each request. Every web server does this; it is required to deliver pages and to investigate abuse.
  • Your answer to the cookie notice. One word in your browser's local storage, on your own device, never transmitted.
  • Correspondence. Your name, email address, optional phone number and message if you write, kept while answering it requires.
  • Your notification subscription. If you allow browser notifications, OneSignal stores a subscription identifier for your browser, together with the email address, name and any phone number you entered on the form. It exists so a reply and later updates can reach you, and it disappears when you unsubscribe or clear the site data.

Absent entirely: accounts, logins, advertising identifiers, fingerprinting, and any record tying a person to the pages they read. Those mechanisms are not present in the site rather than merely unused. The exception is the notification list, which you join deliberately by ticking the box on a form and then allowing notifications.

Why

Technical records keep the site available and let abuse be traced. Correspondence lets me reply. The cookie answer prevents the notice from reappearing on every page. A legal obligation would become a further purpose if one attached to a particular record, which has not happened.

Measurement and advertising scripts do not run before you accept them. Declining leaves the site complete; nothing is withheld to encourage consent.

The forms and notifications

Two forms exist: one on the contact page and one on the handbook page. Both collect a name, an email address, an optional phone number and a message, and the handbook form additionally records the item selected. Both carry a tick box that has to be ticked before the form will send, confirming that you want a reply and browser notifications. No payment is processed anywhere on this site, and no card number, bank detail or postal address is requested on any page; payment for an order is arranged separately by email.

On submission the details are passed to OneSignal, the notification service this site uses, and kept there against your subscription: the email address, the name, the phone number if you supplied one, and the first part of the message. OneSignal consequently processes them on my instructions and under its own terms. That is disclosed here because it would otherwise be invisible and because it may affect what you choose to write.

Those details are used to answer you and for nothing else. No list, no sharing, no marketing. For a general message the basis for holding them is your own request to be contacted; for an order it is the steps you asked me to take before entering a contract, and then performing that contract.

Order correspondence is kept longer than an ordinary enquiry, because a question about a purchase can arrive months afterwards and consumer guarantees do not expire on delivery. It is used for nothing beyond replying to you and sending the file.

The form carries a field hidden from people that only automated submissions complete. Anything arriving with it filled is discarded without being read.

Others in the chain

  • The hosting provider that stores and serves these files.
  • Cloudflare, as the content delivery network in front of the site.
  • OneSignal, which delivers browser notifications and holds the form details described above.

No analytics provider, tag manager, social widget, embedded media or external font appears on any page. The one script served from elsewhere is the OneSignal notification SDK; every other asset comes from this domain, which is straightforward to verify in a browser's network panel.

Leaving for a store listing

Guides link to official Google Play and App Store pages. From the moment you follow such a link, Google's or Apple's own privacy terms apply. Nothing returns to Elvarquen from that visit and this site cannot tell whether you installed anything.

Retention

Technical records are held briefly by the provider and then discarded or aggregated. Correspondence is kept while live and for a reasonable period afterwards. Your cookie answer remains in your browser until cleared; the cookie policy sets out how to clear it.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may request access to personal information held about you, and correction of anything inaccurate. Write to [email protected]; replies normally follow within 30 days. For most readers the honest answer is a short-lived server log and nothing else, and that is what will be said rather than a form response.

Unresolved complaints may go to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Readers in the European Union may also contact their own supervisory authority.

Changes

The date at the head of this page moves whenever the policy does, and material changes are summarised in the first paragraph for a period afterwards.
